Message vtd if you really must, but curiosity is driving me mad on this one.

1st, i am a subaru fan as well as nissan (my first car was an underpowered 85 subaru rust bucket, but 4wd and tons of fun).
2nd, i was originally looking for a 96-98 impreza rs, but i found the z and decided on it instead (my dad used to have a 240z and it was his favorite car).
3rd, i was doing research at ClubWRX.net out of casual interest but i didn't ask this question there because i don't want to register as a member for a forum i would never visit very often.

the question: subaru impreza's main power range is relatively low, around 5k rpm peak (i think), but wouldn't modding it with such things as exhaust, intake, free-er flowing pipig to/from turbo raise the power in high end and shift it from the lower peak?

wouldn't such things shift the range of power upwards? or would it just drop low end power and add much more mid-range power but still leave the high end weak?

i guess what i am asking is: the afore-mentioned mods, would they raise the peak of power of a car (any car) or just increase power in its current range?

i ask this because members on clubwrx always seemed to complain about having the low peak and not having any high end, but none of them ever mention ways to change that.
